The root chakra is located at the base of the spine, the pelvic floor and the first the vertebrae. This chakra is responsible for your sense of safety and security while on your spiritual journey. Another name for the root chakra is Muladhara which when broken down into two Sanskrit words is, Mula meaning root, and Adhara meaning base.
The root chakra provides our foundation which we build our lives. It supports us in our growth and our feeling safe while we explore ourselves and our lives. This chakra questions are around the idea of survival and safety as well as how we ground ourselves to anchor our energy into the world.
When the root chakra is not balanced generally the individual will experience excessive negativity, eating disorder, greed, illusions, excessive feeling of insecurity or feel like they are living in survival mode. Everything looks like a risk or scary. The individual with a blocked chakra will be ruled mostly by fear. An overactive root chakra is when fear may turn to greed or paranoia.
